We went camping over the long Labor Day weekend in Southwest Minnesota near Pipestone National Monument. We enjoyed the place but we didn’t like the heatwave that hit that day–or the severe weather we got hit with overnight. But the monument, and the pipestone, was pretty intriguing. None of us knew that much about it before we went, but it is worth learning about and worth preserving.
We got to camp at Split Rock Creek State Park, and luckily they have a beach that we were able to get into the water a bit and cool off. Max was pretty happy about the swimming part; he’s a fish and once you get him into the water, it’s hard to get him back out again.
The scenery is a bit different out there as opposed to the Twin Cities, but it is nice to see. It’s good to get out and see more of the state once in a while. It’s likely the last camping trip of the season, but we look forward to more next year once the weather warms up again in the spring.
